Acer unveils its World’s Thinnest Laptop at CES 2012 in Las Vegas

Acer, the world known producer of interesting and powerful gadget such as laptop and other gadgets has unveiled its world acclaimed thinnest laptop computer ever as an display of “ultrabook” rivals which is set to début this week at the CES 2012 (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas.

The Taiwan-based popular computer titan as the statement will begin the shipping process for Acer Aspire 5 models by the second quarter of this year, and its prices will be disclosed in couple of coming weeks.

According to what Tim Bajarin, an analyst at Creative Strategies said “That S5 is quite significant,” after the press event that

“It looks like the thinnest and lightest, and it sets the bar for the rest of the ultrabook vendors,” he continued.

The Aspire S5, the world thinnest laptop has a 34-cm (13.3-inch) screen and it is 15 mm at its thickest point. The ultrabook weighs less than 1.35 kg (which is relatively three pounds).

Acer chief executive J.T. Wang said, “We are committed to evolving this technology, and by the second quarter of this year we will have four models of ultrabook and more to come.”

The Ultrabooks is powered by the Windows 8 OS and it is going to be released by the company after its release by Microsoft soon – it is believed that Microsoft will soon releases its newest operating system later time this year, according to Wang.

Wang maintained that the ultrabooks would make up at least 35% of the Acer product line by this year ending.

Bajarin said that “since Aspire S5 is Windows based it is not likely to be a direct challenge to MacBook Air laptops, which have been winning converts to the sleek machines which is powered by the Apple software.”

“The real battle is not with Apple, it is with all the other vendors coming out with Windows ultrabooks,” Bajarin said.

“Apple will still do great with MacBook Air, but in the Windows world it is great news that five years after Apple set the tone the industry is finally getting something equal,” he continued.

Acer, at the event also announced its plans to launch a free service that will enable users of its computers device to store photos, video, music, and other doc. files in the Internet “cloud” and then access such files from any Android software or Windows 8 powered gadgets.

“We believe that Microsoft will take care of the Windows devices; Google will take care of Android devices, and Acer will take care of in between,” Wang assures.

“We will make Windows OS work very well with Android and other platforms too.”

Bajarin also described Aspire S5 as first feasible Windows equivalent of the popular MacBook Air laptops which was built by the California-based company, Apple.

However, Acer Cloud appeared to be a Windows’ version of the freshly-launched iCloud service by Apple that lets people access their contents from any Apple’s iPads, iPhones, iPods, and the Macintosh computers, the analyst said.
